Intune Onboarding Deployment Profiles

A Windows Autopilot deployment profile decides what a brand-new device does the first time it is switched on: how it joins Microsoft Entra ID, how much of the out-of-box experience the user sees, what the device is called, and whether the person unboxing it ends up a local administrator.

From Secure > Intune > Onboarding > Deployment Profiles you can:

• See every Autopilot deployment profile in the selected tenant, and which devices are assigned to each

• Deploy a profile from a template, or a whole baseline

• Edit or delete a deployed profile

Access. You need the Manage permission on Intune. At View the list is visible but the Deploy menu and the row actions are hidden.

The customer must be licensed for Intune. If they are not, this page shows a "not authorized for this feature" message with a contact address for Augmentt sales instead of the profile list.

Prerequisite: the hardware has to be registered with Autopilot. A profile does nothing on a device the Autopilot service has never heard of. Registration is normally done by the OEM or reseller at purchase, or by importing hardware hashes. Convert all targeted devices to Autopilot (below) is the way to bring devices you already manage into Autopilot without collecting hashes by hand.
