Purview Retention Labels

A retention label is applied to an individual item rather than a container. It travels with the item if it moves, it can declare something a record, and it can start its retention clock from the moment the item was labelled or from an event — none of which a retention policy can do.

From Secure > Purview > Retention > Labels you can:

• See every retention label in the selected tenant

• Create a label

• Edit or delete a label

The section has three tabs: Retention policies, Labels and Templates. The Templates tab covers retention policy templates — there are no templates for labels.

Access. You need the Manage permission on Purview — not Secure. At View you can read the list, but Create New and the row actions are hidden.

The customer must be licensed for Purview in Augmentt, and a customer must be selected. If they are not licensed, the page shows "{customer} is not authorized for this feature. Contact sales@augmentt.com to know more."

Read this before you create anything. A retention label does nothing on its own. Microsoft requires it to be published in a retention label policy, or applied by an auto-apply retention label policy, before it reaches any content. Augmentt creates and manages the label itself; it does not publish it or set up auto-apply. Those steps happen in the customer's Microsoft Purview portal. A label created here and left unpublished is inert.
