Purview Retention Policies

A retention policy decides how long Microsoft 365 content is kept and what happens at the end of that period. It works at the container level — mailboxes, sites, OneDrive accounts — so everything inside inherits the setting without anyone tagging individual files.

From Secure > Purview > Retention > Retention policies you can:

• See every retention policy in the selected tenant, with the detail Purview itself shows

• Create a retention policy from scratch

• Deploy one from a template, or a whole baseline

• Edit or delete a policy

The section has three tabs: Retention policies, Labels and Templates. Labels and templates have their own guides.

Access. You need the Manage permission on Purview — not Secure. At View you can read the list, but Create New and the row actions are hidden.

The customer must be licensed for Purview in Augmentt, and a customer must be selected. If they are not licensed, the page shows "{customer} is not authorized for this feature. Contact sales@augmentt.com to know more."

Microsoft licensing is separate. Static retention across Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams typically needs Microsoft 365 Business Premium or higher. Augmentt does not pre-check this — Microsoft surfaces a licence failure when the policy is applied, so a deploy can succeed here and fail in the tenant.
