Purview Retention Templates

The Templates tab is your reusable library of retention policies. Capture a policy once from a tenant you have configured properly, and deploy it to any customer without rebuilding the settings each time.

From Secure > Purview > Retention > Templates you can:

• Create a template by capturing a retention policy from a connected tenant

• Group templates into baselines that deploy together

• View, edit, duplicate and delete templates and baselines

This guide covers the Templates tab. Deploying what you build here, and managing live policies in a tenant, is covered by Purview Retention Policies. Note that these are templates for retention policies — retention labels have no template mechanism.

Access. The Templates tab only appears for users with the Manage permission on Purview. It is hidden entirely at View.

Templates are an all-companies page. Unlike the Retention policies and Labels tabs, Templates is not scoped to the selected customer. Everything here belongs to your organisation and is visible to your whole team.
