In this release (Version 2.5.3) we have two new powerful options for collecting SaaS usage across customer environments:
Agent - The new Windows Agent collects SaaS usage for each employee so technicians can view SaaS activity for the entire company or individual users
Agentless - Augmentt can now automatically pull Cisco logs from Amazon S3 buckets (a free storage option for all Cisco Umbrella users)
Augmentt Windows Agent
The Augmentt Discovery agent uploads SaaS usage data from Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Firefox. In addition to the standard company level rollup of information technicians can also see SaaS usage for individual users.
Install - The agent may be installed manually, via group policy or with your RMM platform
Supported Browsers - Microsoft Edge, Chrome and Firefox
Supported Operating Systems - Windows 8.1 and Windows 10
Upload Frequency - The uploads occurs when a user's machine starts and every 6 hours after that.
The Augmentt Agent installer requires the license key shown in the picture above at time of install and regardless of installation method the technician must provide this information
Manual Install - Using a manual installation aid like ORCA allows MSPs to pass the Agent license key as a parameter at time of install
Group Policy - The MSP can follow the Setup Instructions on the Agent configuration page to create a group policy and globally install to a group of machines
RMM - Most RMM platforms use automation scripts to simplify mass installation of patches, agents, etc. The agent has been tested by customers using both N-central & ConnectWise but any RMM with automation scripts will work just fine
The Agent runs in the background on an end user's workstation as a Windows service
The agent will upload all browser history data when the agent starts (e.g. the workstation first boots up) and again every 6 hours after that
To force an earlier upload an MSP technician can manually restart the agent
User Level Data
A technician can view SaaS usage for each end user as long as their workstation Username or workstation First and Last name match an employee that the MSP has created in Augmentt
If there is no employee that matches the Workstation Username or First name/last name then the data will show up as anonymous SaaS traffic at the company level view
Note: This first version of the agent will upload all SaaS usage for all users and cannot distinguish between different users on a workstation
Automatic Retrieval of Cisco logs from Amazon S3
This new data collection feature eliminates the need for manual upload of Cisco DNS log data to Augmentt. By leveraging Cisco Umbrella's free 30-day rolling S3 storage your logs can be automatically stored to S3 and then retrieved by Augmentt.
All that's needed is to turn on your Cisco logging to S3 (make sure you select all customers and 1 S3 bucket per customer) then enter the credentials in Augmentt and each day at midnight your logs will automatically be pulled into the system.
Cisco S3 Storage Details
Cisco Umbrella customers receive 30 days of free storage to a Cisco hosted S3 bucket
Cisco Umbrella must be configured so that a separate S3 Bucket is created for each tenant
The Umbrella logging services creates CSV log files in regular 5-10 minute increments
In order to inspect an S3 bucket a 3rd party tool such as S3 Browser may be required
After configuring S3 retrieval with the Data Path, Access Key, and Secret Key, the log files will be retrieved at the next retrieval window
Augmentt will download all log files each day at midnight and process them in the order received
