Agent Deployment using VSA from Kaseya

PrerequisitesDownloading the Agent and Locating your Company License Keys

The below steps will allow you to deploy the Augmentt Discovery Agent using Kaseya VSA.

A few things to note before continuing:

  • The .exe installer from the Augmentt Portal (Download from: Configuration -> Agent) needs to be added to a .zip archive, and then uploaded to the VSA server at: \VSASharedFiles\Augmentt Agent\discoveryagentsetup.zip

You can upload the .zip file to your VSA server by navigating to ‘Agent Procedures -> Schedule / Create,’ and clicking on ‘Manage Files’ at the top of the screen.

Ensure you upload the .zip file to \VSASharedFiles\Augmentt Agent\

Section 1: Importing the Agent Procedure

  1. The first step is to download the .xml procedure attached at the bottom of this article.
  2. In Kaseya VSA, navigate to Agent Procedures.
  3. From there, select (or create) your desired upload location. In this case, we will upload to ‘Shared/Deployments/’
  4. Next, click on ‘Import Folder / Procedure’ at the top of the screen:

  1. Click on the camera icon and navigate to and select the downloaded .xml file, and click ‘Save.’

  1. Now, under your upload folder, there should be an entry for ‘Deploy Augmentt.’

The procedure has been created to use a managed variable – allowing for deployments across device groups, without hard-coding the license key from Augmentt into the script. If you prefer to use a hard-coded variable, skip the next section, and follow the instructions in Section 3.

Section 2: Creating a Managed Variable

To create a managed variable to be used, follow the below steps:

  1. Select the procedure from within VSA, and click on ‘Manage Variables’ at the top of the screen.
  2. Under ‘Select Variable,’ leave this set to <New Variable>.
  3. To the right, under ‘Rename / Create Variable,’ enter the text ‘augmenttkey’. (Without the quotation marks)
  4. In the ‘Set Variable Value’ field, enter the License Key from the Augmentt Portal for the specific end client we are deploying to.
  5. At the bottom of the screen, you can select with Org / Machine group this key should be used for. Ensure the group only contains machines for the correct end client.
  6. Click ‘Apply’ in the middle of the screen to create the variable for the Org / Machine group.
  7. You can now update the variable for additional Org / Machine Groups, using the appropriate license key from the Augmentt Platform.
  8. Click the ‘x’ in the upper right-hand corner when you are done.

Section 3: Creating a Hard-Coded License Key

If you would prefer to hard-code the license key for a specific end client from Augmentt (under Configuration -> Agent in the Augmentt Portal), follow the below steps:

  1. Select the procedure from within VSA, and click ‘Edit Procedure’ in the top nav bar.
  2. In the next screen, select the green text starting with “msiexec.exe” in line 12:

  1. Replace the text <augmenttkey> with the License Key from the Augmentt Portal (removing the angled brackets).

The procedure can be run on the desired devices from this same screen, using the lower portion of the screen to schedule or ‘Run Now.’
